Question 2- How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My music magazine is made to target a target audience, of both male and female who are rap/hip-hop listeners. I have represented the social group firstly through the use of the image on the front page of my music magazine which portrays the social group in many ways.
Firstly the clothes that the model is wearing on the front page convey the social group. He is wearing; a black t-shirt, black jeans, a red hooded jacket, a backpack and a black chain. The models dress code suggests a stereotype of being a ‘street boy’ or gangster look which is typically aimed at black boys. This stereotype is used in my music magazine as it relates to rap culture and shows a link between the music and the stereotyped target audience but realistically my magazine has a larger target audience. With the use of the stereotypes gains the right to appeal to the rap culture and trends as a target audience. The NVC of the model also represents that social group of being tough and showing no emotion.
The chain present on the model is not typical jewellery that you could buy off the high street, but can only be purchased online from an American website which is based around hip-hop and American artists fashion choice. The use of the chain in the image represents the rap culture and introduces the influence of American artist’s apparel and shows how it is recognised in the UK, which helps my magazine show its diversity and not being a typical British music magazine.
