Question 6- what have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

I have learnt many things about technology that helped me construct my magazine. The first technology that I used to help construct my magazine were using Photoshop CS3. This was critical due to this was the only software that was compatible to work with blogger. I faced some difficulties using Photoshop due to it was new software for me, with practise I was able to become more familiar with the software and was able to use effects and guides to help me set out my layout. At the beginning of the project I had difficulties making the fonts work on Photoshop at school. To work around the problem I used the Apple Mac computers which allowed the fonts to work directly.

Secondly I had to learn how to use a Canon E0S 400D camera to capture all my images to use for my magazine which allowed me to take high quality pictures. Secondly I had to learn how to use a Canon E0S 400D camera to capture all my images to use for my magazine which allowed me to take high quality pictures with the correct lighting. I also was lucky enough to use a set up lighting room which worked with the camera and gave a short blast of lighting at the exact time from when I pressed down on the capture button. This meant that my images had the right lighting that helped the overall look of the images to be improved and look more professional. I had trouble trying to get the position of the focus point to take the picture but to get around this problem I was able to change the position directly from the camera, that made it easier for me and made the image come out better. This was especially important on my double page spread to have enough spacing on the right hand side to place the text and not allow it to go over the divide of the page. All these little steps were important to make sure that my end result of my magazine was professional.

I also used the spot healing tool to take away spots from my models face which allowed a more professional look like existing magazines have. This tool is shown in the screen shot below.

Other tools that have assisted me in the final outcome of my music magazine were the unique idea of adding stars to separate the cover lines on the front page of my music magazine. I was able to make this by going to custom shapes then 'all' which took me to a drop down menu were I was able to find stars. By allowing me to have multiple starts I clicked on the layer and duplicated it which allowed me to make quick copies.  I came across this idea of using stars as cover line dividers by looking at an existing magazine from rolling stones.

To make the text stand out throughout my magazine I learned to use stroke which allowed particular lines of text to stand out more than others for example main cover line. The stroke was also able to become thicker increasing the main text to stand out. In my case I made it 2/PX. This is illustrated in the screen shot below.

This image shows the set up of when I was taking the pictures of the models to go into my music magazine. This picture shows the speaker as a prop and a soft box with flash that worked with the camera, that allowed the right lighting at the exact moment when I captured the picture. Also I originally used the blue background to get a nice overall background that was viewable and would help make the models stand out.

This is a drawing of the camera set where I was able to take my pictures and I have drawn and labelled the components used in the setting.
