Question 3- What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Looking at a variety of different publishing houses I think Bauer publishing group would be more likely to publish and distribute my magazine. The Bauer Publishing Group comprises 282 magazines worldwide in 15 countries, as well as TV and radio stations. Bauer started in the UK with the launch of Bella magazine in 1987 and as H Bauer Publishing became Britain's third largest publisher. Bauer further expanded in the UK with the purchase of Emap Consumer Media and Emap Radio in 2008 to become the UK's biggest publishing group.  There are many reasons for my decision and the first reason is that Bauer publish magazines worldwide. This would be an advantage for my magazine due to it is targeted to be a worldwide magazine so it would reach a wide audience. The publishing house is also based in Britain so it would reach my primary audience. With Bauer I will also be able to advertise and promote my magazine through the use of their radio and TV stations. The use of Bauer launching magazines such as Bella and Kerrang will also gain the business brand recognition and help the reputation of my magazine grow faster. Also it would allow Bauer to be diverse in the different types of magazines that they distribute which could benefit the company being ahead of computers and become a unique selling point. This would draw in more potential customers and could increase the business profits.
I would also think of my magazine as being the best in its category (hip-hop/rap) and therefore I would not distribute my magazine in corner shops, due to it would not portray class and I would have no control of promotion of my magazine or where it is placed on the shelves.

I would try to distribute my magazine in music stores such as HMV and retail shops such as Tesco and WH Smith. I have made this decision because HMV is one of the most successful music stores that are visited by millions of music fans. HMV have a wide range of music genres that include hip-hop and rap. My second choice for distributing my magazine in a retailer such as WH Smith and Tesco is due to they are the top leading retailers, this would allow my magazine to get attention in their magazine section and also this would reach a wide range audience of all ethnic groups and age groups. This would also be a more accessible alternative from having to go to a specific music store.  I would also consider distributing my magazine in youth clubs based in south east due to it would be seen by my intended target audience that are in the age range of 16 -18 but also may be seen by a younger target audience that could either have a positive or negative effect due to some content and language may not be able to be viewed by persons under the age of 16.
